Day 13: Media and Information Languages (Lecture)

The thirteenth day of class for the second semester for Media and Information Literacy '17-'18. Our teacher, Mr. Rodel Mansilla Opiana, discussed Media and Information Languages.

While discussing, there were questions encountered and answered. The questions and answers are shown below:

"Language is a source of misunderstanding"

Since language is a vast topic, people could have different knowledge and perspectives that could be the start of misunderstanding. It will spread to other people and some information might be altered or changed depending on how people understood the message.

Does the user's/audience's background or experience affect the interpretation of messages? How?

Yes. The user might have their own knowledge or perspective related to the messages that might make changes to the intended interpretation.

Is it possible that a different individual derives a different meaning from the message? Explain.

Yes, it is possible. Each individual might have their own knowledge or perspective of the message.

We were also tasked to identify five signs and symbols used to convey information. Here are some of my work:

How are these signs and symbols used to make people in the community understand the message being conveyed?

By putting easy-to-understand iconic symbols, people in the community will be able to understand the message.

The teacher gave us a task, to look at three picture and try to understand its contents. It will be discussed on the next meeting.
