Day 3: Policies, Security, and Netiquette

The third day of class for the second semester for Media and Information Literacy '17-'18. Our teacher, Mr. Rodel Mansilla Opiana, discussed about policies, security, and netiquette.

The discussion have two parts, the Edmodo's Acceptable Use Policy and Appropriate Online Behavior

In discussing Edmodo's Policy, I observed that it is very detailed and thought out to prevent harmful actions. To be honest, it was really long and somehow uninteresting since most of the discussion was already discussed a lot of times before. Even if it was really important, I somehow got bored. The discussion somehow refreshed my mind on how to work with information providers. The teacher informed the section of Pascal about something we could call as "house rules" that we must follow to maintain order in the site.

In discussing Appropriate Online Behavior, I observed that it was shorter than the policy discussed before. It is as important as the policy. It discussed about how one must act while using the net. The discussion includes getting information online, being polite, interacting with tact, cyber bullying awareness, protection, and many more.

To summarize, the virtual world is just like the real world. Even if you cannot hurt someone physically, you can hurt them in different ways. We must learn the proper way of using the net. Since we can get hurt in the virtual world, we must also learn how to protect ourselves. Learn the rules and regulations. Report the violators. Keep the online environment clean and friendly.
