Day 2: Media and Information Design Framework

The second day of class for the second semester for Media and Information Literacy '17-'18. Our teacher, Mr. Rodel Mansilla Opiana, discussed about media and information design framework.

First, we reviewed the definitions from the last discussion which includes media literacy, information literacy, technology literacy, and media and information literacy. After that, the teacher asked us to list our misconceptions as an individual then as a group. For me some misconceptions are:

  • Media Literacy is knowing what to post on social media.
  • Information Literacy is knowing where to get information.
  • Technology Literacy is knowing how to use gadgets.
  • Media and Info Literacy is knowing what media gives the correct information.
Actually, Literacy is not as simple as knowing how things work. One should still evaluate or analyze the situation/information before using it. Understanding the topic, we moved on to discuss the media and information design framework. He asked the class to fill up the matrix by using given guide questions. He said to think like a real journalist and also think up of an article which will be the basis of the matrix. My work can be seen listed in the table below:

As a journalist, I thought that since there are a lot of young people with dreams to study in a good educational facility, gathering information, summarizing, and sharing it with them will make their school hunting easier. By creating a lot of scholarship articles, students that wants this kind of school might be able to find a college suited for them. Entering a good academy, the potential within these young people will be brought out and be used for the greater good.
