The ninth day of class for the second semester for Media and Information Literacy '17-'18. Our teacher, Mr. Rodel Mansilla Opiana, discussed the Types of Media.

We had a starting activity which is to put the identified pictures into the table with labels. The activity is shown below:

After that, we were asked to construct our own definition of:

a.) Print Media
  • A type of media that uses paper and ink to share information

b.) Broadcast Media
  • A type of media that aims to spread information using airwaves

c.) New Media
  • A type of media that uses digital platforms

We discussed about the definitions then moved on to Media Convergence. We discovered that it is the co-existence of different kinds of media. We had an activity to give examples of media convergence:

Media Convergence
Platform
Specific Examples
Communication
Social Network
Facebook, Twitter
Education
Learning System
Edmodo, Quipper
Advertisement/Commercial
Product Advertisement
Digital Posters
News
News Agency
Digital Newspapers
Entertainment
Multimedia Personality
Famous actors’ media

For the last few minutes, we were tasked to have a Synthesis. The teacher gave us 10 minutes to do it. My work is shown below:

Describe how new technologies have led to the convergence of traditional and new media.
The traditional media gets incorporated into the new media to make it more efficient and accessible.

Explain how media convergence creates new opportunities for interaction.
Media convergence makes sharing information easier. Before, newspapers needs to be printed then delivered to different places. Now, one-click is all you need to get the information you need.

Describe the use of one or two forms of new media to share knowledge and information on a current issue in society.
By using new media like social media or cellphone texting, information sharing becomes a two-way process and becomes easier to spread out.

Explain how a person could be portrayed in public in the age of media convergence.
Before, dead people gets printed in the obituary. Now, their families shares the news on social media.
